RCPsych Quick Guide to FY Training

Foundation Training forms the bridge between medical school and specialist training. The training typically consists of 6 x 4-month placements over 2 years in a variety of specialties and healthcare settings. Foundation Training develops doctors’ medical skills and ensures they have the competencies necessary for specialist training. The training also includes generic professional skills such as interpersonal and team-working skills.

The FY trainee is NOT learning to be a psychiatrist. The aim of the rotation is to provide a meaningful experience in psychiatry and to allow the doctor to achieve the Foundation Programme competencies. However, if FY trainees have an interest in psychiatry, they should be

RCPsych Sustainability Scholarships (North West) 2015-16

The Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) Sustainability Scholarship Programme 2015-16 is offering part-time, one-year scholarships over the next year. The North West scholarship is open to advanced trainees (ST4 and above) in the North West and Mersey Schools of Psychiatry.

The successful candidate will be supervised and supported by the Oxford-based charity, the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) in conjunction with the RCPsych Sustainability Lead. The North West Scholar will be paired with Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which has committed to implementation of the Joint Commissioning Panel for Mental Health sustainable commissioning guide. An Introduction to Medical Leadership

The evening has been organized in response to feedback from trainees attending previous NWMLS events that they would like an event that offered an ‘Introduction to Leadership’. We hope it will be useful to Foundation doctors and Junior trainees. We’ll be addressing the following common questions and queries.

1. What is medical leadership and what does it mean to me as a health professional in the North West?
